Types of Systems

In order to select the optimal heating and cooling system for your Portland, Oregon home, it is important to consider your home’s physical dimensions, seasonal temperature needs, and service options. At Jacobs, we carry four primary types of heating and cooling systems for a variety of different home needs: split systems, hybrid heat split systems, ductless split systems and packaged systems.

Split Systems

Split Systems are the most typical heating and air conditioning system type. With a Carrier split system, you have products that reside both inside and outside your home. An innovative Carrier split system includes:

  • Air Conditioner—Cools refrigerant
  • Furnace and Evaporator Coil, or a Fan Coil—Converts refrigerant and circulates air
  • Ducts—Carry the air throughout your home
  • Control or Thermostat—Your interface for controlling your system
  • Optional Air Quality Accessories such as Air Cleaners or Ventilators—Clean your air before it circulates throughout your home.

Hybrid Heat Split System

Hybrid heat split systems, equipped with a heat pump, provide a more energy-efficient alternative to traditional heating and cooling split systems. The heat pump gives the option for electric-fueled heating and cooling, in addition to gas heating. An cost-effective Carrier hybrid heat split system includes:

  • Air Conditioner—Cools refrigerant
  • Furnace and Evaporator Coil, or a Fan Coil—Converts refrigerant and circulates air
  • Ducts—Carry the air throughout your home
  • Control or Thermostat—Your interface for controlling your system
  • Optional Air Quality Accessories such as Air Cleaners or Ventilators—Clean your air before it circulates throughout your home.

Ductless Split Systems

Typically, ductless systems are installed in homes to compliment a ducted system. The ductless systems are ideal for homes with places that are impractical to install ducts. Carrier ductless systems offer a matched combination of:

  • Air Conditioner—Cools refrigerant
  • Furnace and Evaporator Coil, or a Fan Coil—Converts refrigerant and circulates air
  • Ducts—Carry the air throughout your home
  • Control or Thermostat—Your interface for controlling your system
  • Optional Air Quality Accessories such as Air Cleaners or Ventilators—Clean your air before it circulates throughout your home.

Packaged Systems

For homes without space for the multiple products found in a split system, Jacobs offers a variety of packaged solutions. From one-room units to entire home systems in a single package, Carrier has various options, including:

  • Packaged Products —A heat pump or air conditioner combined with a fan or evaporator coil in a single unit. All you need is a control or thermostat and any air quality accessories you’d like. Packaged Systems may be located on the exterior of your home either on the rooftop or in the yard.
