Video: How to Care For and Extend the Life of Your Heating Equipment

If this Portland winter is going to be anything like last year’s (think: icy conditions and lots and lots of snow!), we need to start preparing for the frigid temperatures. How can you make sure your heating equipment can withstand another blustery Portland winter?

Just in time for the temperatures to drop, we were invited to a live interview with Greater Portland Today to share tips on how to care for and extend the life of your heating equipment.

Watch the video above, and be sure to remember these key tips:

  • Schedule an annual tune up.
    • Get your furnace tuned up by a qualified service technician.
    • Be proactive, and try to schedule this tune up before the cold starts (however, when it comes to furnace servicing, it’s much better scheduled late than never!).
    • By scheduling consistent tune ups on your heating equipment, you’ll avoid costly emergency service costs—all while ensuring that your furnace is running smoothly and with the maximum efficiency possible.
  • Clean or change those filters.
    • Breathe easy and change the filters regularly. With the fires this year, we’ve noticed that filters have been especially dirty. Dirty filters are much less efficient—plus, they aren’t good for air quality either.
  • Get a carbon monoxide alarm.
    • Furnaces, particularly older furnaces, have the potential to leak carbon monoxide, which is very toxic and hazardous. We recommend that a home has at least one carbon monoxide alarm (more if a home is larger or has multiple fuel-burning appliances, heaters, or fireplaces).

We hope you found this video to be helpful! Should you need to schedule a service appointment, please feel free to contact us. We are wishing you a safe, warm, and cozy Portland winter; if there’s anything we can do to help, we’re just a phone call away.
